FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which COVID-19 restrictions are in place?

Ah COVID, what a topic! Wildland Photo Tours adheres to current provincial public health orders, which can be found here. Because of the fluid nature of this situation, our policies will be adjusted accordingly. Please, contact us for up-to-date information.

Do you have a set itinerary per photo tour?

No, our choice of locations is dependent on multiple factors, including subject matter, weather conditions, seasonal changes and most importantly, the duration of the photo tour. During our shorter tours (3-4 hours), we focus on 1-2 locations close to town. A JASPER JOURNEY will provide us with plenty of time (6 hours) to photograph multiple locations throughout Jasper National Park. This photo tour comes with a personalized itinerary, based on subject and location preferences.

What about the weather?

The weather patterns in the Canadian Rockies are fickle and hard to forecast accurately. Moody days might not make for the best views, but besides mountains we can photograph canyons, lakes, waterfalls, glaciers, wildlife, trees, etc. There is plenty of photographic subject matter in Jasper National Park!

All photo tours and workshops will run in adverse weather, unless a Public Alert has been published by Environment Canada. In that case, a full refund, minus $50 admin fee, will be provided.

Can my non-photographer spouse join on a photo tour?

Definitely! All photo tours come with a maximum of 3 participants, to minimize impact on the landscape. Our attention will mostly go out to the photographers joining the tour. A note of caution; landscape photography tends to follow a “hurry up and wait” approach, especially when we are waiting for that light to hit. This might not be as interesting to a non-photographing spouse. However, by all means, please join us, take a seat and enjoy the view!

Does Wildland Photo Tours provide transportation?

No, Wildland Photo Tours does not provide transportation for the participants. For photo tours, the booking person is responsible to arrange transportation, this includes the vehicle, insurance coverage and a National Park pass for all participants. We will arrange transportation prior to the private tour, or with the group at the start of each workshop. Wildland Photo Tours strives for sustainability, carpooling is strongly encouraged during our photo tours and workshops.

Is there a wildlife specific photo tour?

Although we might have a wildlife encounter during any of our photo tours and workshops, we only factor in additional time for wildlife viewing and photography during our WILDLIFE & LAND photo tours. However, only when the situation allows for a safe experience, for both human and animal. We will remain in our vehicles at all times, as is stated in Parks Canada’s wildlife viewing practices.

We acknowledge that Jasper National Park is located in Treaty 6 and 8, and the traditional lands of the Anishinabe, Aseniwuche Winewak, Dene-zaa, Nêhiyawak, Secweìpemc, Stoney Nakoda, Mountain Métis and Métis.

It is a privilege to explore and photograph these traditional, ancestral and rightful lands.
